The shipyard's management also had their problems. There were plans to expand, changes in the organisation, new machines, new materials, new building projects and a continual adjustment to an unpredictable world market with shipbuilding being supported by lots of state subsidies.
The German occupation led to the shipyard's director being sent to a German concentration camp called, Froeslev, in southern Jutland, because he supplied the local escape route with cash and oil.
The next director modernised the shipyard and added a large dry dock, cranes and increased the specialization of the working processes.
