På dansk In English

Danish Shipbuilding has been one of the main cornerstones in Danish Industry.
Today, shipbuilding is just a shadow of what it used to be. Just one of the many large, new shipbuilding yards is left as all the rest have closed down.

For more than 130 years, shipbuilding has been the foundation for the town of Frederikshavn and its development, but today there are only 3 yards left in the municipality. One is a steel shipbuilding yard and the other two are wooden shipbuilding yards. From being an industry with thousands of jobs, we can count only a few hundred employees in the industry today.

We would like to dwell a little on this story, which tells so much about ships, craftsmanship and traditions, not because we want to re-live the past but because there is something we can be proud of. We ought to be proud of what our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents did and what they have done to make it possible for us to have a safe existence while growing up.

We cannot live by just renovating old ships, but we can learn from it. We cannot live by having a shipbuilding museum, but we can learn from it.

Please help us to take the old traditions, the old craftsmanship and the old ships into the future.

Even if we say so ourselves, our home page is not so bad. We will never be finished with it, as we consider it a living book, where we will add what we find out about the shipyard, the town, the ships, the tools used and shipbuilding constantly.
