The name of the organisation is "Vaerft Historisk selskab Frederikshavn" and means "The History of Shipyards in Frederikshavn". The abbreviation is VHs.
The aim of the organisation is to document, preserve and to pass on the shipyards most important historical events, which had an influence on the development of Frederikshavn and for the area around the town.
The organisation will:
- Collect and register stories from the history of the shipyards.
- Describe and re-tell the development of the establishing of Frederikshavn (Buhl's) shipyard to the closing of Danyard.
- Document and re-tell the importance of the shipyard industry for the town of Frederikshavn and the surrounding area's cultural identity.
- Help to show how ships were built in the past by renovating and building these old ships.
We have assembled a committee, whose members both technically and historically are well qualified to be able to complete this project. There are also committee members, who are able to shed light on the shipyard's history seen from a cultural, sociological and identity perspective.
"Dockers working day and celebrations."
This is a project, where we collect and register stories from previous dockers about the history of the shipyards. This work is divided up into several projects, as the scope is very large.
The main feature in the organisation's work is the regular Thursday morning meeting at 9.30 a.m in Skolegade, Frederikshavn.
Over a cup of coffee, we discuss and then decide what has to be done with the different projects.
